Garden Bridge, Shanghai

Categories: Bridges, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.6/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web
The only surviving truss bridge in the country, Garden Bridge represents an example of heritage architecture and remains a popular landmark for citizens and tourists. One of four original Western-designed bridges, it was constructed in 1908 out of steel imported all the way from England to accommodate trams and automobiles. Over the years the bridge has seen many historical events, including assassinations and strategic closures. Strolling along its length, take in distinctive scenery on both banks of Suzhou Creek: old-fashioned backstreets to the north, and Western-style buildings to the south. A night visit reveals a vibrant scene, with the bridge colorfully lit and the city lights twinkling beyond.
