Former French Concession, Shanghai
(4.1/5 based on 2,600+ reviews on the web)
Explore the European-style, tree-lined avenues which house a variety of modern restaurants, cafes, concept bars, breweries, and art galleries at Former French Concession. Although the concession came to an abrupt end in 1943, the prominent residential and retail district still remains a popular tourist destination and one of the rare centers of Catholicism in China. Go on a walking tour to learn about the history of the charming streets and to discover cultural and religious buildings built by the British, Americans, Russians, as well as the French. In addition to visiting the high-end designer stores and high class restaurants, you can also find markets where you can bargain for cheaper prices. Make Former French Concession a centerpiece of your Shanghai vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Shanghai vacation generator.

  • This place has some very scenic buildings, and also have abundance of choices of different cuisines.
  • The former french concession is characterized by small houses and narrow streets with dozens of shops, bars and restaurants. Truly unique!
  • When you get in front of this neighborhood looks like an old ghetto ... within a succession of winding alleys! obviously set up for tourists. souvenirs and typical street food or not, however I strongly recommend using half a day to discover this atypical area of shanghai
