Feel at peace as you walk around Kaiyuan Monastery, a Qang Dynasty shrine with a history spanning nearly 1,000 years. Notice South Indian-style granite carvings decorating the Hindu-Buddhist temple as you take a peaceful stroll through the grounds. Two Dravidian-style pagodas situated either side of the complex provide excellent vantage points, from which you can take in views of the central courtyard, main hall, and small hall. Make sure you visit a special pavilion at the back of the complex where the remains of a Song Dynasty ship are stored. Where to stay in Quanzhou

Quanzhou doesn't attract many international tourists and, as such, doesn't perhaps possess the same range of accommodations found in similarly sized Chinese cities. However, as a large city with business and industry leading the way, you'll find a good number of standard hotels here, directed at traveling businesspeople, but comfortable enough for a night's stay. Licheng district has a good set of guesthouses and hostels, while Baiyuan Road boasts the grandest hotels in town.
