Zhalong Nature Preserve is a wetland reserve in Heilongjiang province, China.HistoryEstablished in 1979, the 2100km2 marshland is a major migratory route for birds from the Arctic migrating to South East Asia and is one of the few breeding grounds in the far east for the marsh grassbird (Megalurus pryeri). There area is one of freshwater marshes, streams and ponds. Its ponds and reeds make it an ideal home for over 300 different species of birds. It is protected by the Chinese government. Within the park, a large flock of red-crowned cranes is held in captivity for conservation purposes. The reserve is listed as a RAMSAR Wetland of International Importance (no. 542).Migratory birdsThis marsh reserve serves as a stopover and nesting area for a large number of storks, swans, herons, grebes and other species. Lying on a migration path stretching from the Russian Arctic around the Gobi desert to South East Asia the land under this preserve is used by migrating birds between April and October.

  • And roommates rented a couple of people car, rode about 4 hours to the destination, the car reached the location of the crane, the most exciting is when the crane flew over, and then is a variety of photos, very rich natural scenery of the tourist attractions.

  • Beautiful day on the reserve. Great tour guide. Museum a little out dated. Saw Crane release and flew over our heads. Then took fun boat ride back. Beautiful reeds, calming  more »
  • The location is not far from Qiqihar City. Zhalong Nature Reserve is a vast area of wetlands and a lake. It is a natural conservation dedicated to the Red Crown Cranes ( Dan Ting He ). Here is where some cranes are breed in captivity and are set free to feed on decinated times each day. There are also wild cranes. Visitors can watch them feed from a huge platform in the middle of the lake.To get there, visitors can either walk through walkways ( takes about 45 minutes ) or pay for a two way ride by boat ( takes about 10 minutes ) can enjoy views of the lake and the wetlands. There is also a museum on natural history of the area.In the museum , are exhibits of specimens of wild lifes of the area, photos and other exhibits.Zhalong Natural Reserve is national rated and famous in China.It is worth to visit.   • I was overwhelmed by the number of cranes. In winter, the cranes cross over to Japan's in Hokkaido in search of warmth. In the spring, the crane returns to Qiqihar. Overwhelmed by the number of cranes. In the winter, and crane warmth to cross to Hokkaido in Japan. In the spring and the crane back in Qiqihar.
