Laolongtou (Old Dragon's Head), Qinhuangdao

4.1
Resembling a huge stone dragon drinking from the sea, Laolongtou (Old Dragon's Head) forms the easternmost part of the Great Wall of China, culminating in a complex of towers and fortifications extending into the Bohai Sea. Admire a vast expanse of water from the 22.4 m (73.5 ft) long stretch of stone wall standing 9.2 m (30.2 ft) above sea level. Per custom, place your hand at the dragon's forehead and make a wish. Stone sculptures of soldiers, cannons, inner courtyards, and archery fields make this spot a special treat for history buffs. You can rent a twin bike or take a horse or camel ride, or simply stroll along the sand beach underneath the fortification. Bring some water with you. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Qinhuangdao holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Laolongtou (Old Dragon's Head) and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • I enjoyed seeing the wall entering the sea. The wall was rebuilt, and it took a little bit of grace. But observe the position of how it used to be and visit the temple which is next to make the ride be very interesting. Is very worthwhile for those living nearby. Not worth it for a short time in China.

  • Overpriced and really nothing much! Total waste of time. Period. Situated outside beidaihe, nearer to Qinhuangdao. But close to other attractions like MengJiangNu Temple.  more »
  • It's a great feeling to see the ancient city. The ancient architecture was very suitable for this place to take a walk. Feel the difference between the past and the present, and imagine why you should do it.

  • It's covered with tourists, it costs too much and lacks any feeling of authenticity. By all means go because it is unique, but don't expect to find it magical in any way.
  • 👍👍👍👍👍
  • Possibly the best place to see the wall. Known as the dragon's head is the beginning or end of the wall. Next to the sea. It has numerous buildings to visit. Although the wall itself has few meters to go, since the pass is usually closed.

Where to stay in Qinhuangdao

Accommodations in Qinhuangdao lie chiefly along its coastline strip, ranging from five-star hotels and bustling chain resorts to affordable inns and guesthouses. In spite of the city's compact size, you may need to take taxis or public transit to get from one attraction to the next, since they spread out along the lengthy coast. Hostels and apartments for short-term rent make good budget-conscious options.
