Qingdao Shilaoren Bathing Beach, Qingdao

#2 of 16 in Beaches in Shandong
Beach Nature / Park
Experience the unique Chinese beach culture with tents and conservative swimwear at Qingdao Shilaoren Bathing Beach, a fine sandy stretch in the Laoshan District. This is Qingdao Bathing Beach No. 2, or “The Old Stone Man“ beach, named after an oddly-shaped 17 m (55 ft) tall rock springing from the sea, resembling an old man sitting in the sea or a fisherman waiting for his daughter. Relax and people-watch or play beach sports on finely grained sand. Qindao boasts some of the best beaches on the east coast, with this beach coming towards the top of the list. You can use the beach's changing rooms, showers, and locker service during the high season, and you can also rent speedboats and ATVs. Where to stay in Qingdao

For upmarket, high-rise hotels in Qingdao, look at the area to the east of the center, largely revamped in time for the 2008 Olympics. Here, skyscraper chain hotels jostle for position on the main streets, offering sea views and a wealth of additional facilities, while humbler options sit on the side streets, offering more basic lodgings, but still in new blocks. To the west, the more historic districts have a good set of hostels, hotels, and guesthouses to suit a wide range of budgets and tastes.

  • One of the best beach in Qingdao whether with family or not - also great place to do your morning jog!  more »
  • Some might say it's dirty, other might say it's ok, anyway you see it, it's a worth visit to the beach because there are lots of seagulls and you can smell the fresh cool breeze coming from the ocean ...  more »
  • It was a cold winters day when I visited, but still there were a few people on the small beach. Not worth a visit, unless you want to see the famous "stone man of the sea"  more »
