Penglaige, Penglai

4/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
Head up to Penglaige, the peak of a peninsula offering extensive views along the coastline, and a number historic temples. Said to be the place where Emperor Qin Shi Huang sought the elixir of life in the second century BCE, the scenic viewpoint and the temples that dot it certainly possess both a natural and man-made charm, with the buildings neatly complementing the red rock of the cliffs below. The museums and temples within the cultural park at the end of the peninsula deserve plenty of exploration, along with the neatly maintained traditional gardens and the wealth of viewpoints.
