Specialty Museum
Immerse yourself in culture at Tianyi Library, China’s oldest, existing library. Stroll through the beautifully maintained gardens and courtyards and marvel at the traditional Ming Dynasty architecture. The library dates to 1561, and once upon a time contained a collection of over 70,000 antique books. Sadly, the British took many books after the Second Opium War, and thieves stole many more. The collection now stands at around 30,000. Due to the age and importance of the books, most now reside in a climate-controlled environment and away from public display. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as you explore this complex and soak up the history. Use our Ningbo vacation planner to visit Tianyi Library on your trip to Ningbo, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.
