4.3/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Immerse yourself in culture at Tian Yi Library, China’s oldest, existing library. Stroll through the beautifully maintained gardens and courtyards and marvel at the traditional Ming Dynasty architecture. The library dates to 1561, and once upon a time contained a collection of over 70,000 antique books. Sadly, the British took many books after the Second Opium War, and thieves stole many more. The collection now stands at around 30,000. Due to the age and importance of the books, most now reside in a climate-controlled environment and away from public display. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as you explore this complex and soak up the history.
  • While in Ningbo should visit the oldest Library of China. It is not only valuable to keep books and information about the culture China, but by the charming and quiet is the place. Visit it with rain and it was lovely.
