Categories: Cemeteries, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.3/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web
Perched atop a giant staircase, Sun Yatsen Mausoleum (Zhongshan Ling) pays tribute to a hugely influential figure in the founding of modern China. Start in the main square below the staircase and head up the slope through the towering ceremonial arch. Climb the 400 steps to reach the mausoleum itself, an imposing marble structure topped with decorative blue tiles. Admire the tile work of the crypt ceiling, and note the white sun on a blue background, the symbol of Sun Yatsen's Kuomintang Party. Check out the inscriptions and tablets within the inner chambers of the structure--strangely enough, Yatsen received honors from both his former nationalist party and the communist government. Don't miss the actual tomb, a copper sarcophagus topped by a statue of the leader.
  • Picturesque! Bring a good pair of shoes because you need to climb a fairly substantial number of markets! But what a pleasure, and what a view once you get to the top.
