#2 of 19 in Museums in Nanjing
Explore the impressive collections of the modern history museum in Presidential palace of Nanjing, a sprawling 600-year-old imperial residence and former seat of political power. Tour the complex, climbing the five-story tower, admiring life-size wax figures of important historical personalities, and exploring the office of the provisional president. A contrast of traditional Chinese and Western-style architecture gives a sense of the tumultuousness of China's road to modernization. Stroll past numerous gardens and carp ponds as you ponder the country's momentous history, ranging from the early Christianity-inspired Taipei Rebellion and the establishment of the Heavenly Kingdom, to the abolition of the empire. • This could be the one and only presidential palace of the Republic of China that is open to public. Admission is ¥40 (free for City Park Annual Pass holder), discounted ticket of ¥20 available for adolescents, students, elders, soldiers and disabled.
  • A huge place... In Beijing, they have Forbidden City(Gu Gong), in Nanjing, they have Presidential Palace. This place witness the birth of modern China. A must visit for those who is interested in what happen during that period.
  • Roc 's formal presidential office but held with prc 's flag now
  • Very significant place to understand the evolution of modern China; has many layers of history and stories so a whole day visiting might not do justice.
  • I have no idea why it is popular cuz I am not a chinese?

Where to stay in Nanjing

You won't find a shortage of accommodations in Nanjing, a modern metropolis long on the radars of domestic and international tourists. Look south of the main railway station, following Central Road, to find the primary districts where visitors stay, with clusters of high-rise hotels--some luxurious and others standard, but all comfortable. A number of smaller boutiques set in formerly residential buildings provide atmospheric, well-maintained, and budget-friendly options. Take a look at the side streets around Central Road for a wealth of hostels and guesthouses.
