4.2/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web
One of the largest museum spaces in China, Nanjing Museum (Nanjing Bowuyuan) boasts over 400,000 artifacts spread over more than 70,000 sq m (753,473 sq ft). This is also the first comprehensive museum in China, telling a story about this great civilization since the Paleolithic era, divided into six pavilions. Observe the ancient bull-shaped oil lamp from the Han period, and see unparallel collections of imperial porcelain from the Ming and Qing dynasties. You can also visit model villages showing ancient life in various regions. Exquisite paintings, jade sculptures, and lacquerware, among many other items, show Chinese arts and crafts at their best. You can enter for free, but you need to flash some ID and fill in an entry form, and you'll find little in the way of English information. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Nanjing holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Nanjing Museum (Nanjing Bowuyuan) and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Since my first trip here many years ago the museum has been enlarged and improved, entry is free except for the changing special exhibitions and the labeling is good and informative.
  • It is a museum but a gorgeous one The relics are well labelled and in English which is most helpful It is worth the visit
  • I visited the Nanjing Museum on October 1st. The place looks small from the outside but it's actually very large and needs a whole day.
  • Used to be a volunteer here. The collection is good, but not the best. Worth visiting though.
  • A kind of boring. It's a waste of time to go there.
