  • This site refers to a time not far from the History of Portugal. Who look at these houses could very well be in Brazil, in East India, in Tirmo or in Africa. But no, we're in Macau. The Taipa Houses-Museum are the annual Lusofonia Festival stage and it is always a pleasant place.

  • A bit hard to find but worth it. Beautiful old houses, some with displays about the history of Macau. Close to the Taipa Village shops.  more »
  • Beautiful houses, well maintained, with the old world charm intact. due to paucity of time, we could see only three out of five houses.  more »

  • A collection of old colonial era houses that have been converted into galleries and a simple museum, overlooking a lake and tall hotels where the sea once was. A relaxing experience where you can just walk around and enjoy the scenery, as well as soak in the history of the place. The place boasts a nice view for photos as well, with a neighbouring garden with different themes throughout the year.
  • Free entrance... a nice place to take a pic... on the outside... the inside are too dark and gloomy... but there's a lot of interesting vintage objects inside
  • Free of charge and very interesting. Recommended. Bring some mosquito repellent if you plan on taking pictures outside.
  • Very interesting architecture that gives visitors a good insight on the history of Macau before and then after the Portuguese came.
  • Free entry really impressive historical interior and furniture

Where to stay in Macau

Cotai Strip in Macau offers luxury hotels, with famous names providing rooms looking out over the harbor and down into the historical center. Establishments in this area also feature onsite entertainment options and Vegas-style casinos. Look for more affordable options north of Nam Van Lake, where chain and boutique hotels provide rooms with views of the city, the harbor, and across to China proper. Head farther north for lower rates offered by hostels and apartment rentals.
