Albergue SCM (Albergue da Santa Casa da Misericordia), Macau

#112 of 223 in Things to do in Macau
Visit a cultural attraction with a rich history at Albergue SCM (Albergue da Santa Casa da Misericordia). The two main century-old buildings, constructed during the Portuguese colonial era, display Iberian architecture with golden-hued walls and a rustic appearance. Between them sits a tranquil courtyard with two old camphor trees. Once a refuge for elderly women, the buildings came to be known as the "Shelter of the Poor" during World War II, offering refuge to the needy and those without a home. These days the buildings house art galleries and workshops, fostering a sense of community and artistry that draws from the colonial heritage of the city. A Portuguese restaurant here offers fresh meals and an array of drinks and snacks. Find out how to plan Macau trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

  • It is a building in beautiful Portugal cream in the St. Lazarus district. Once is was used as a nursing home, but now that has been renovated to the cafes, restaurants and galleries. Especially in the Gallery staff works such as stained-glass Windows. It is like Macau S.A.R. affected Western exhibition.

Cotai Strip in Macau offers luxury hotels, with famous names providing rooms looking out over the harbor and down into the historical center. Establishments in this area also feature onsite entertainment options and Vegas-style casinos. Look for more affordable options north of Nam Van Lake, where chain and boutique hotels provide rooms with views of the city, the harbor, and across to China proper. Head farther north for lower rates offered by hostels and apartment rentals.
