Luoyang Museum, Luoyang
(4.4/5 based on 85 reviews on the web)
At Luoyang Museum, you have the chance to explore the rich cultural heritage of Luoyang, a major center of one of the world's oldest cultures. The city's history extends over a dozen ancient dynasties of the Xia and the East Zhou, and the artifacts uncovered in the area and displayed here establish a historical past, from Neolithic times up to 937 AD. Through four display halls and five exhibition rooms across 10,000 sq m (110,000 sq ft) of floor space, you'll have the opportunity to inspect around 1,700 artifacts, including pottery, porcelain, gold, silver, bronze, and stone wares, as well as tri-colored glazed pottery produced during the Tang dynasty. Our Luoyang holiday planner makes visiting Luoyang Museum and other Luoyang attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • The Luoyang Museum changed venue compared to my last visit years ago. Now it is housed in an imposing building on the outskirts of the city. While the former is easily visited in a couple of hours for this new arrangement should allow at least half a day. The ceramics collection remains incomparable Tang and Han mirrors. Unfortunately little visited by foreign tourists. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 16.30 with free admission. To achieve better the taxi, the area is fairly out of traffic and for the easy return you have to wait a bit before stopping a taxi, better make one call from the front desk.

  • A spacious and modern museum with exhibits dating back several thousand years. Lots of Buddhist art as well as traditional Chinese archaeological finds from the area. Strict security on entering. Very clean toilet facilities and a few places to sit, though not much in the way of refreshments.
