  • Shuhe old town is smaller but yet quieter than the one in the main city centre. You can virtually buy the same things, enjoy a drink or meals by the canals in a more peaceful setting. Food there were ...  more »
  • Shaxi, Guangdong, it was as magical, beautiful and full of the details of architecture and Chinese culture, which I love. The 4 km northwest of the old town of Lijiang, in the foothills of the Jade Dragon, is a compact village hidden in the forest, Shuhe. UNESCO has listed as an important component of Shuhe Lijiang, as it is a well-preserved example of a city along the ancient tea route and one of the first settlements of the ancestors of the Naxi people. Is called the "city of springs". Qinglong bridge, built with stones, measuring about 25 meters long, was built during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Among the numerous ancient stone bridges in Lijiang, is regarded as "the first".

  • Another ancient town in Lijiang, with longer history than the main one. Since it is a little less know and not in the center of the city, it attracts less tourists, making the area quieter. Don't get discouraged by what you see in the beginning, go to the further ends of the town to see narrow valleys and feel the spirit of the old town. There are numerous cosy cafes all over the place, but I cannot say anything about the quality of their service, since I have not entered to any of them. A lot of couples are having photo shoot sessions in the upper part of the old town. The entrance fee is 40rmb.
  • Nice, clean and interesting. Entry for free. Suprise in China.
  • The most comfortable place on earth I have even been to. You can feel sunshine massage you every morning. I stayed at K2 international youth hostel for 3 weeks. Small tips for you, disconnect yourself with the rest of world and just enjoy your every moment there. I am confident you will not regret.

Where to stay in Lijiang

Though built on a small scale, Lijiang has long been a popular destination for Chinese tourists, and what was already a good choice of accommodations has grown with increased international interest. Expect to pay a premium to stay in the old town area, with hotels overlooking the main canals particularly popular. Head out of the old town and you'll find a good range of more cost-effective, smaller guesthouses, hostels, and hotels, either in the suburban residential areas, or on the main roads leading out into the hillier areas of the region.
