Ganden Monastery, Lhasa

4.8
#7 of 15 in Historic Sites in Lhasa
At Ganden Monastery, explore one the "great three" Gelug university monasteries of Tibet, perched high on the 4,200 m (13,779 ft) Wangbur Mountain. Founded in 1409 by Tsongkhapa, the great preacher, saint, and Tibetan Buddhist scholar, the monastery would go on to teach thousands upon thousands of monks, and give rise to the "yellow hat" section of the Tibetan Buddhist faith. Look for yaks as you take the scenic winding road up the desolate mountain to the site; once there, you'll gain an authentic look at an ancient, still-functioning spiritual society. Choose from several walking paths traversing the monastery, including one that circumnavigates the entire site, affording panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. • If you are adept school Gelugpas, here, in this monastery, you can bow it down with the remains of the founder of this school. In the traditional Buddhist structure of skull Dzonkapy Wizard is stored. Oh and picturesque places!

  • Far away from Lhasa city, it takes about 1 hour by car. I get into the tour was arranged in advance, visited accompanied by guides. Among the temples in Tibet visited the sacred and I felt the dignity. He was also gasping for breath and climbed to high ground, very beautiful sight. I think spot should go to.

Where to stay in Lhasa

Look along the knotted streets of the eastern district of Lhasa for a number of welcoming guesthouses and storied hotels, close to the main Tibetan attractions around Jokhang Temple. With a little more age and character than options out west, the accommodations in this district attract seasoned travelers and cultural enthusiasts. Out to the west sit a good deal more chain hotels and towering hotel and mall complexes, offering a range of additional facilities, such as swimming pools, restaurants, and karaoke bars.
