Barkhor Street, Lhasa

4.4/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web
Take a walk along Barkhor Street, which encircles a temple and showcases many different aspects of Tibetan culture. Reputedly the street evolved out of the worn track made by visiting pilgrims in the years following the temple's construction; devotees still perform the ritual circumambulation today, holding prayer rules as they move in a clockwise direction. Varied stalls and shops sit on both sides of the street, selling locally made handicrafts, religious icons, and clothing. Stop for some refreshment at one of the many teahouses, and watch the daily life of the locals all around. See Barkhor Street and all Lhasa has to offer by arranging your trip with our Lhasa family vacation planner.
