Barkhor Street, Lhasa

4.3
#4 of 15 in Historic Sites in Lhasa
Take a walk along Barkhor Street, which encircles a temple and showcases many different aspects of Tibetan culture. Reputedly the street evolved out of the worn track made by visiting pilgrims in the years following the temple's construction; devotees still perform the ritual circumambulation today, holding prayer rules as they move in a clockwise direction. Varied stalls and shops sit on both sides of the street, selling locally made handicrafts, religious icons, and clothing. Stop for some refreshment at one of the many teahouses, and watch the daily life of the locals all around. Because it is dark at 9:30 PM here, we have enough time to walk around the Barkhor street and look for some interesting souvenir. Saw many locals also walk and pray around the temple! Whatever they talk or rest, they always took 法輪 and pray any time。

The picture at the top is wrong and it is not a tourist destination unless you need help from the police. People are posting about this in error.

    在西藏買紀念品的好地方,唐卡在這邊買也很划算,遊客非常多,商店也多,可以在這邊逛很久

Where to stay in Lhasa

Look along the knotted streets of the eastern district of Lhasa for a number of welcoming guesthouses and storied hotels, close to the main Tibetan attractions around Jokhang Temple. With a little more age and character than options out west, the accommodations in this district attract seasoned travelers and cultural enthusiasts. Out to the west sit a good deal more chain hotels and towering hotel and mall complexes, offering a range of additional facilities, such as swimming pools, restaurants, and karaoke bars.
