  • The Museum of the province of Yunnan, newly installed in a large ultra modern building opposite the new opera, some 30 minutes from the city center, is really worth to be visited. We learn a lot about the history of Yunnan (since pre-history), its traditions, the flourishing arts of the ancient dynasties (remarkable collection of jewelry, statues of Buddhas). (free entry, 9-17 h, closed on Monday) (There might be a little more guidance in English for the particular dates, but is not so bad)

  • Museums such as the Museum of Nanjing is not much compared to local characteristics, to see the two exhibitions, remember the deep is a time when abstract painting exhibition, usually has some dinosaurs and bronze.

  • Went with a friend, we had a gray time wondering around and looking at the items. Very limited English but even so things were interesting to see. The tad bit of English there was was useful and cool ...  more »

  • Impressive new building further outside the centre of town (moved from the previous site in 2015), meant we had to get a bus and metro to reach it. Positives: brand new, free, varied exhibits, pretty much empty as not sure many people know about it/can be bothered to travel out to it, some interesting artefacts, especially the ceramics and some of the Yunnan specific history and ethnic clothing. Negatives: English signs and descriptions leave a lot to be desired by just labelling the item and frequently not even dating the objects, perhaps the 20 yuan audio guide would be worth it as a lot of the additional info with exhibits is only in Chinese. This made it a bit dull to walk around the 3 huge floors after a while. Cafe has no English and pretty poor selection. Also no signs for which direction to walk around the floors, found ourselves going back in time on a couple of occasions. Worth a visit if you have a decent amount of time in Kunming, if on a tight schedule then wouldn't suggest the trip out and the 3 odd hours required to walk around are worth it.
  • No fee ticket. No english.
  • The museum mainly shows the local history of Yunnan, Nanzhao, Dali, the stunning exhibits are not, to understand the local source still has some help.
