4.3/5 based on 170 reviews on the web
The snow-clad peaks of Mount Kongur reflect on the still surface of the water at Karakul Lake, the highest lake of the Pamir plateau, standing at an altitude of 3,600 m (11,800 ft) some 200 km from Kashgar. Grasslands along the lake shore provide a home to some locals living in yurts, as well as majestic grazing horses. The lake offers a center for visitors, where you can rent boats, camels, and horses, or plan your hiking trip. On a clear day, the backdrop of Mount Muztagh Ata, with its white 7,500 m (24,606 ft) high peak, makes an unforgettable view.
