  • 9/11/2001 was my first stay at the Gongga Gomba. I was with two friends there for research purposes during several days, and you can perhaps imagine, that one was somewhat irritated to this hermitage at re-entry into the civilization. At that time we felt the stay at the monastery missing comfort despite paradise, especially since the two monks and the Abbot proved very helpful. Also at that time was to reach the monastery only on foot or on horseback from Liuba, today a road passes nearby, which requires a higher frequency of tourists. So it goes to today there occasionally significantly "full" once invade local travel agencies with groups in the monastery. You must stop are lucky to meet the right time window. Access is free, but a donation is usually expected. The monastery is but packed Nebelwäder offers a splendid view on the less known side of the Minya Gonka and there flowing glaciers as well as dense with MOSS still a Hermitage. But it can happen, that the temple complex for hours in the fog is that the inversion is sometimes above 3750 m ü.M, i.e. above the location of the building complex. Often overlooks this fairly common sea of clouds but down, and then the landscape is even more beautiful, especially since the Gongga Shan is usually exposed in such a weather situation. This is undoubtedly an advantage of the West side, because on the tourist much frequentierteren and "fair" East side monsoon prevails in the summer and autumn months very often with the associated clouds and frequent rainfall - in the context of the Gongga Gompa, it is, however, less cloudy. Another advantage of the monastery is its relatively original building enjoyable apart from the results of the ruling otherwise in the land renovation anger with trend to grelleren colors and little authentic accessories. But, still - worth a visit but you should minimize its demands for comfort to be hiking and ready for a muddy access.
