Crisscrossed by nine rivers, Xitang Ancient Town represents a scenic water town with a history dating back to the Spring and Autumn Period. The town contains eight sections linked by traditional stone bridges, and amid its narrow streets you can seek out many antique residences as well as temples. During your exploration, notice how a large number of well-preserved buildings, corridors, lanes, and bridges bring artistic quality to the ambience. Also, examine a series of archaic residential houses which hold special cultural value, since they were mostly constructed during the reign of the Ming and Qing Dynasty. Xitang, 🇨🇳 China Welcome to enter with me in Xitang, a charming water town crisscrossed by nine rivers near Shanghai! This city has more than 2000 years history. Its typical architecture with little lanes and canals will charm you. The city hasn't been developed so much in modern time and kept its ancestral loveliness.

A lovely but overly sanitised place. Far out from city and it is not easy to get to. You are better off going to Zhujiajiao.

This is by far the most peaceful place I've ever visited in China. It's a combination of peaceful, lively, beautiful and mesmerizing. Small cute bars with awesome live musics and astonishing ancient structure and smell of fabulous food ... it's just amazing. I recommend this more than other water towns around Shanghai.

Chinese old/new town. Some nice areas and some crazy "nightclubs", the hole town drops dead at 12 at night
