All the cities we visited and we visit are actually organized in this way: the large modern city and old town are always distinct and separated from each other sometimes even tens of kilometers. Despite being a little joke by tourists, Chinese cities including, Jianshui is a town located in several animated. On the ground floor of houses with sloping roofs, inlaid in wood, are in fact hosted clothing stores with loud music and the neon lights. This contrast between traditional architecture and massive use of neon and dance music will be a hallmark of almost all places visited including and especially tourist ones, as if the two things (buildings and historic architecture and rowdy stores bits and bobs) were quite naturally compatible and as if it was not necessary to protect that much heritage from kitsch. And whilst this stride a bit with European sensitivity protection of heritage landscape and historical heritage, which privileges the preservation and static (as tourists we all ambition down to live a "time travel" in glorious and unspoiled places, rather than to accept new ways of reinterpreting the historical heritage making dialogue with modernity that seems common and so mediocre) the other Chinese approach makes this more secular places in a sense more vivid, spontaneous and so paradoxically less artifacts.show original
As China old towns are, this is one to visit. I really like there. People were very helpful even so I do not speak Chinese. They use their smart phone translation app to help.
