Wisdom Path, Hong Kong

(4/5 based on 40 reviews on the web)
Take a meditative walk along Wisdom Path, an arrangement of monuments representing important prayer verses. The 38 monuments each display verses from the ancient Heart Sutra, which is sacred to Confucians, Buddhists, and Taoists. Wander up close and you'll see the prayers, engraved in Chinese symbols into the structures. Notice how the monuments form an infinity pattern. While a popular attraction, the place retains a feeling of serenity and calm. Combine this with a visit to the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. Put Wisdom Path into our Hong Kong itinerary builder and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Make this part of a day trip to Lantau, a quick ride from HK. The trail starts near the big Buddha. If you go early, you'll have the trail to yourself. It's rugged in spots, so wear good shoes. You ha...  more »
  • A nice and short path close to Po Lin. It is a short walk away from Po Lin and the path itself is only 150 meters long

  • This place is beautiful, feels like a place for learning Kung Fu or Tai Chi Chuan. Very peaceful and perfect for a gentle stroll. Pro tip: make sure you go all the way til the top to see great views of the mountains and the Big Buddha!
  • MTR Tung Chung Station, Exit B and go to the Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal. Take a 25-minute cable car ride to the Ngong Ping Cable Car Terminal and follow the sign; or, MTR Tung Chung Station, Exit B. From the bus terminus next to the MTR station, take bus 23 to the Po Lin Monastery. Then follow the signs to the Tea Garden and walk through the hiking trail from the Tea Garden's entrance for approximately 15 minutes.
  • A visually stunning if not short trek close to the Buddha statue on Lantau Island . This is worth a visit on your way to climb Lantau Peak or as a satisfyingly picturesque substitute if you're not feeling up to the exertion.

  • A relatively good view, and contemplation to be had. while strolling along the path towards the wisdom path. Not very far, but it's relatively quiet.
