Wisdom Path, Hong Kong

4.2
Take a meditative walk along Wisdom Path, an arrangement of monuments representing important prayer verses. The 38 monuments each display verses from the ancient Heart Sutra, which is sacred to Confucians, Buddhists, and Taoists. Wander up close and you'll see the prayers, engraved in Chinese symbols into the structures. Notice how the monuments form an infinity pattern. While a popular attraction, the place retains a feeling of serenity and calm. Combine this with a visit to the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. • Divine surprise this Wisdom Path, especially when you come from the mountains. It is a contemporary work dating from the beginning of the 2000s, consisting of thirty large handwritten wooden masts. They are arranged one after the other on a short circuit at the edge of the forest, in nature, just at the start of the Lantau Trail hiking circuit, that starts in the mountains. It's very pretty and amazing, it looks to see gigantic Indian totems. There is not a lot of explanation, too bad, but I saw a few Pilgrims praying at the foot of one of the masts. It is a true haven of peace, in a 10-minute walk from the crowd who visits the monastery of Po Lin and its great Buddha. Worth the trip, don't what to get away from the world! To access it, you will cross a kind of No - Man's Land of restaurants-shops-houses buildings disused and abandoned, curious, likely traces of a tourist complex that didn't work and totally left fallow.

  • Though it says 15mins away, it took us longer. We enjoyed the walk, since its a nice weather and cooler in December. Its a bit uphill but overall its worth walking.  more »
  • Now not many will walk to this Path after climbing 268 steps up the Giant Buddha, but we did as the weather was cool. Turning right after coming down the steps, you will walk through a small farm type...  more »

  • Must visit! Great walk to here and the view is superb! Great place for photography!
  • If you're a nature lover and enjoys hiking, this is a place that you should consider visiting. The journey of getting here as well as the destination are both an unforgettable experience, as we hiked through the clouds to reach a place that looks like it came right out from a mystical movie. It is definitely memorable. Protip: Wear hiking gear (shoes with a good grip) and bring water and umbrella. The hike takes anywhere from about 15 to 30 minutes depending on your speed.
  • Interesting place to learn more about the buddist Religion, but take a Guide like the Buddist Walking Tour from the Big Budda
  • Nice short walk to main area. About 10-15 mins at the steps of the foot of Giant Buddha statue. Plenty of tree canopy enroute and well marked on concrete path most of the way.
  • If you like walking and relax in natural, you should visit this place. There are the amazing view from the high mountain

Where to stay in Hong Kong

Head to Tsim Sha Tsui for the main tourist section of Hong Kong, where it's easy to find reasonably priced accommodations to suit your particular requirements, with more expensive hotels closer to the water and side streets offering budget hostels. You can also consider Hong Kong Island, which offers easy links to the mainland via its ferry and train lines. Chain hotels sit in the northern section of the island, where luxury and budget options remain available.
