Tai Long Wan, Hong Kong

4.8
#4 of 15 in Beaches in Hong Kong
Though big, curling waves do attract many visitors to Tai Long Wan, you don't have to be an adrenaline junkie to appreciate this special beach. The conditions closer to shore are suitable for kids to swim, under supervision. A host of surf schools offer classes, ranging from beginner to advanced. You can also try your hand at windsurfing, a specialty of the beach. For Tai Long Wan and beyond, use our Hong Kong trip itinerary planning tool to get the most from your Hong Kong vacation.

  • I came back to this beautiful and unspoiled Beach after 8 years and with pleasure I found that nothing has changed. Spot surrounded by nature! Due to a bit of rough sea it was not possible to take a boat directly from Sai Kung to the beach so the ride was a little longer (94 bus from the station in front of the port of Sai Kung Pak Tam Au up to , then hiking for about 90 minutes) but certainly much more scenic. Prepare to spend amid water buffalo who will share with you the way! Upon returning instead we took a boat to the beach nearby (Ham TIn) and HK $150 per person following us in Sai Kung, circumnavigating the whole eastern side of the peninsula at sunset (another unique experience!). Place to visit to get away from the hectic city life and to enjoy a white beach and a sea like Thai Islands. P.s.: If you're surfing you can rent boards at one of the restaurants on the beach in Ham Tin. P.P.S.: camping equipment hire at the same restaurant as it can also pass the night on this heavenly Beach

  • We went there at the end of September, hiking was a bit tough, but mostly because of the outside temperature, takes about 40mins-1hour. The scenery is so breathtaking during hiking so you just stop ev...  more »
  • When we went on the wave, could debut surfing is 6-year-old daughter. Go in the morning is recommended. Weekend comes quite a few people in the afternoon. From minibuses to Onami Bay are also crowded in the afternoon. I think as a seaside resort's rooms. Cheap showers, toilets, stand, umbrellas, rental surf boards and SUP, bodyboard, empty-handed, so that you can rent, we also enjoy. I felt like a lot of kids have boogie boards.

Where to stay in Hong Kong

Head to Tsim Sha Tsui for the main tourist section of Hong Kong, where it's easy to find reasonably priced accommodations to suit your particular requirements, with more expensive hotels closer to the water and side streets offering budget hostels. You can also consider Hong Kong Island, which offers easy links to the mainland via its ferry and train lines. Chain hotels sit in the northern section of the island, where luxury and budget options remain available.
