#29 of 143 in Parks in Hong Kong
Lion Rock, or less formally Lion Rock Hill, is a mountain in Hong Kong. It is located between Kowloon Tong of Kowloon and Tai Wai of the New Territories, and is 495 metres high. The peak consists of granite covered sparsely by shrubs.Lion Rock is noted for its shape: its resemblance to a crouching lion is most striking from the Choi Hung and San Po Kong areas in East Kowloon. A trail winds its way up the forested hillside to the top, culminating atop the "lion's head". The trail can be followed across the profile of the lion, eventually linking up with the MacLehose Trail. The rock provides a view of the city and Hong Kong Island in the distance. The entire mountain is located within Lion Rock Country Park in Hung Mui Kuk, Tai Wai and is made passable by vehicles by Lion Rock Tunnel, which connects Kowloon Tong and Tai Wai.Lion Rock is near another famous rock structure, the Amah Rock. A road in Kowloon City is named Lion Rock Road (獅子石道).

  • It was a wonderful hike and would come back again for sure! Me, my wife and mother in law started the hike from Wong Tai Sin MTR and managed to complete the walk in 4 1/2 hours. It wasn't tough (my mo...  more »

  • The park is super clean and it's well signaled. The trail to the peak is a bit difficult but totally worth it! We start the trail at 4pm and we could reach the top to see the sunset. If you do that I recommend taking a headlamp with you.
  • Very nice area for a good hike with breathtaking views. In comparison to Victoria Peak it is completely different, but I prefer lion rock: there are no buildings, you are in the nature, and there are just a few other visitors (we were alone there most of the time) Bring enough water and sun protection if it’s a sunny day(recommended however to get a clear view)
  • Astonishing view on the rocks, no matter on the day or night. Stunning as the peak. A must go spot.
  • I really recommend going to this hike! I took a bus there. Bring mosquito repellent, cover your body, and bring water as you will be hiking and it will be humid!! There will be signs that say don't feed the monkeys. Me and my group didn't bring any bananas but the group ahead of us did. If it wasn't for the food, I would not have been able to see monkeys this close.
  • Nice hike up but no where near as difficult as people make it out to be online
