Lion Rock, or less formally Lion Rock Hill, is a mountain in Hong Kong. It is located between Kowloon Tong of Kowloon and Tai Wai of the New Territories, and is 495 metres high. The peak consists of granite covered sparsely by shrubs.Lion Rock is noted for its shape: its resemblance to a crouching lion is most striking from the Choi Hung and San Po Kong areas in East Kowloon. A trail winds its way up the forested hillside to the top, culminating atop the "lion's head". The trail can be followed across the profile of the lion, eventually linking up with the MacLehose Trail. The rock provides a view of the city and Hong Kong Island in the distance. The entire mountain is located within Lion Rock Country Park in Hung Mui Kuk, Tai Wai and is made passable by vehicles by Lion Rock Tunnel, which connects Kowloon Tong and Tai Wai.Lion Rock is near another famous rock structure, the Amah Rock. A road in Kowloon City is named Lion Rock Road (獅子石道).

  • The hike to Lion Rock was the best hike that we completed during a week long trip to Hong Kong. We enjoyed it even more than the hike along the Dragon's Back. The hike offered plenty of exercise, grea...  more »

  • The experience was nice. From the moment you step into the starting point of the hike —which is Shatin Pass because it's more convenient and way quicker than going in there from the other side of the city, the city's panoramic view will greet you already with a big smile. But when taking pictures, you gotta be careful with the cliff because they're very dangerous. Beware of the feral monkeys because they're everywhere.
  • The park is super clean and it's well signaled. The trail to the peak is a bit difficult but totally worth it! We start the trail at 4pm and we could reach the top to see the sunset. If you do that I recommend taking a headlamp with you.
  • Meant For experienced hikers 😄 Takes like 3-4 hours to do the complete trail. The views from the top are breathtaking. The last 30mins stretch is tough because the path is rocky, rough and rugged. They have these signboards of people falling from the cliff. This is totally meant for people who are climbing the Iron head. The climb to iron head rock is very steep. So unless you’re good at balancing your steps and slipping off rocks I wouldn’t recommend climbing the iron head 😄 We got off from Shatin Pass route. If you’re taking that way, be prepared for hell lot of stairs.
  • A good value hike. If you plan it right you'll finish it within 3hrs. Views are amazing and you have a good view of HK, Kowloon and NTs.
  • Enjoyed my hike. This would be for the intermediate hikers but beginners can try on a slower pace with more breaks. Please be careful and drink lots of water!
