Bird Street, Hong Kong
(2.9/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
Head to Bird Street for insight into how captive songbirds live in traditional Chinese gardens. Even if you're not here to make a purchase from one of the dozen or so stalls stocking songbirds, check out the beautiful hand-crafted bird-keeping paraphernalia, such as bamboo cages and porcelain water dishes. The street is also very popular with songbird enthusiasts, so this is a good opportunity to observe this culture firsthand. • A small street bypass which takes only 10 minutes. A variety of birds in cages, bird feed and pet shops. But rare birds. Main entertainment-buy kanarejku on memory and release it as uninteresting, especially come. not worth it.

  • It will only take 5 minutes or so to walk around this bird market. It was interesting to see so many birds in one place on sale but I wouldn't make the walk out to it specifically to see this market u...  more »

  • Disgusting and very sad. Hundreds of poor birds of all varieties crammed into small, unclean, filthy cages. Big birds, most with plucked feathers from stress, chained to their perches. Truly a horrific and inhumane display. Reminded me of the smuggled birds you see, stuffed in bottles from Africa. This place needs to be shut down, it wasn't always like this.
  • nice little market. worth to go there. But don't take too much pictures. Some locals don't like it and get angry
  • Interesting place to visit, as this area is one of the most densely populated on earth the Hong Kongers take tiny birds in tiny cages out to enjoy the charming smog filled air of the Yuen Po Bird Garden. Birds are also for sale and Westerners may be horrified at the number of birds per cage. This garden was rebuilt in 1997.
  • Very sad. Birds are crammed in small cages for sale. Larger birds are chained to perches. Very strong smell of bird poop.
  • Fortunately HK not took it down after SARS in year 2003
