Bird Street, Hong Kong
Categories: Flea Markets, Shopping
Head to Bird Street for insight into how captive songbirds live in traditional Chinese gardens. Even if you're not here to make a purchase from one of the dozen or so stalls stocking songbirds, check out the beautiful hand-crafted bird-keeping paraphernalia, such as bamboo cages and porcelain water dishes. The street is also very popular with songbird enthusiasts, so this is a good opportunity to observe this culture firsthand. It will only take 5 minutes or so to walk around this bird market. It was interesting to see so many birds in one place on sale but I wouldn't make the walk out to it specifically to see this market u... read more »
香港很多老一輩也喜歡養雀, 喜愛他們的叫聲。 因而做就了這一個行業的存在, 在這裡你可以找到不同類型的雀仔。
It's not really a street... More like a walk through. It's maybe a 5-10 min walk through. But if you're planning to do all the "market streets" anyways this one is ok. You really don't see this everyd... read more »
In this enchanting corner of Mong Kok, you will find a handful of old men out ‘walking’ their caged songbirds. Stick around long enough and you should see birds being fed squirming caterpillars with chopsticks. There are also feathered creatures for sale, along with elaborate cages carved from teak. Adjacent to the garden is the flower market , which theoretically keeps the same hours, but only gets busy after 10am.
Culturally very interesting but there are also so many birds in such small cages it's a bit creepy. The are bags full of crickets and other creepy crawlies. Some tourists will love this place but the air seemed a bit stale (even tho outdoors) and I felt sorry for all the beautiful birds.
I didn't found it so interesting... Some beautiful birds but in cages of course... It's just a birds market.
Lovely little spot well worth passing theough. Interesting to see all the different varieties of birds, although be prepared to see stacked up small cages.
This is not something that I see everyday. Locals bring their caged bird here for a walk. The main walkway is generally where most bird owners and their birds can be found, while the side street is where you can purchase birds and anything else you need for them. I wouldn't go out of the way to come here but if you're nearby or also visiting the flower market, do stop by.
