  • The Hong Kong bird market is North of Kowloon. It is installed as part of a small park, well laid out with small specialized shops. Of course, all of these birds would be better outside and it's sad to see all of them crammed in cages. Nevertheless, it is a traditional market with small round wooden cages and beautiful songbirds. This is part of the local culture and it is always amazing to see these gentlemen walk one or two cages with birds in the parks of Hong Kong. When we go to the market and we meet all these gentlemen to chat or play on tables with their birds in cages, we're still surprised.

  • Great local culture! A walk through the Bird Garden is quite an immersive experience and well worth your time. You will be completely surrounded by caged birds of many varieties, artisan cages, and various foods for birds and flowers. Loved it.
  • A nice fun place to visit. I don't know much about birds but it looked like there was a wide selection of accessoires and supplies as well as birds to sell. Owners bring their own birds to socialize.
  • What a cool place to come for a stroll. They have some really beautiful birds. Don't forget to stroll past the flowers too!
  • I didn't really see the charm of this as a tourist attraction tbh. It's like an open-air, bird-focused pet market. I was surprised at the number of Australian native birds for sale (given it's illegal to export them ... I guess they are locally bred?).
  • A very local gathering of bird enthusiasts. Everyone willing to chat & allowed non-flash photography of their pet birds. Remembered to wash hands before and after visit

Where to stay in Hong Kong

Head to Tsim Sha Tsui for the main tourist section of Hong Kong, where it's easy to find reasonably priced accommodations to suit your particular requirements, with more expensive hotels closer to the water and side streets offering budget hostels. You can also consider Hong Kong Island, which offers easy links to the mainland via its ferry and train lines. Chain hotels sit in the northern section of the island, where luxury and budget options remain available.
