Sophia Square, Harbin

3.7
Admire the colors and culture of Sophia Square, a public plaza known as the home of a large-scale orthodox church. Extending out in front of the 1912 Byzantine-style church, the square allows for investigation of the church's ornate exterior decoration and architectural idiosyncrasies, which stand in clear contrast to the other architecture around the square. The space itself also represents a popular meeting place for locals and tourists alike, hosting a range of food and souvenir stalls. Use Inspirock's suggestions to plan your Harbin trip and find the best activities and attractions for your vacation.

  • The building is very Russian. The whole Harbin city is a heritage of Russian culture. On this square you can find the biggest Orthodox church in the far east. There are many shopping malls around this square, so it is convenient to buy souvenirs.
  • The square near the Sofia Temple. Note for shade. Surrounded by numerous souvenir shops.

Where to stay in Harbin

South of the Songhua River, you'll find the bulk of accommodations in Harbin. In a cluster close to Zhaolin Park, a number of modern hotels, a few guesthouses, and other budget-friendly options along the less traveled streets cater to a range of travelers. Look for hotels occupying old Russian-built architectural landmarks, with some particularly notable ones located across the Nangang District.
