Harbin Ice and Snow World, Harbin

4.6
Marvel at an array of intricate frozen sculptures and artworks at Harbin Ice and Snow World, one of the largest exhibitions of its kind in the world. Explore the outdoor park and discover its wide range of monuments crafted from packed snow and ice, which run the gamut from triumphal gateways to gigantic igloo-like palaces. Hop aboard a horse-towed wagon to kick back and admire the park at the same time, or simply wander your way through the variety of world landmarks and structures created almost entirely out of ice. You'll note many of the ice structures also feature colored lighting that lends them bright hues in the dark. • LMAO tackiest I've seen in a long time. Nothing beats the combination of Chinese and Russian tackiness. Line up for 30mins in the cold or pay 50RMB pp to bypass the queue for free entry (the staff wil...  more »
  • This is real gem of any winter trip to Harbin. It looks alive even better than on photos. But be ready to cold and long lines in entrance. As to hot drink and food - there is Pizza Hut and some others...  more »
  • Let's put the festival on day 13 January 2018. It's amazing the amount of ice statues and the creativity of the artists. Was -16 degrees on this day, people worry too much with the low temperatures of the place, but we had no major problems. Appropriate clothing and adhesives that warm hands and feet let you comfortably and you can enjoy the festival without problems. There are some cafés and restaurants on site and if you cannot stay long on the outside, you can come in and have a cup of tea or hot chocolate to warm up. We use public transport to and from the site. There is a bus from 47 lines that let in the door and on the way back this line makes a special path coming out of the festival and leaves you in a mini bus station. From this location you can take a taxi or a Didi for your destination. If you choose to take the bus, stay tuned for that most stop circling the 9:00 pm (our case). We stayed some time waiting for some Didi to go back, because the demand was great and had no cab enough. The cabs on site charge around rmb 90 to return to the Center and do not use meter. Too expensive compared to the regular price would be 25 rmb. Our hotel was not in the Center, so it was another bad point to the return.

Where to stay in Harbin

South of the Songhua River, you'll find the bulk of accommodations in Harbin. In a cluster close to Zhaolin Park, a number of modern hotels, a few guesthouses, and other budget-friendly options along the less traveled streets cater to a range of travelers. Look for hotels occupying old Russian-built architectural landmarks, with some particularly notable ones located across the Nangang District.
