Xixi Wetland Park, Hangzhou
Categories: National Parks, Nature & Parks
Immerse yourself in lush green vegetation at Xixi Wetland Park, some 11.5 sq km (4.4 sq mi) of west Hangzhou's weeded waterways with great cultural heritage. Dating back to the Han period, this 1,800-year-old cultivated wetland area with ponds, lakes, and swamps represents China's first national wetland park. A museum dedicated to traditional life in the wetlands offers artifacts documenting lives of fishermen and farmers, while well-preserved residences and dwellings bring history and tradition to life. Take a boat and explore this unique ecosystem with a guide, and round out your visit by ordering a homemade meal served on the docks. If you're lucky, you may spy white egrets, wild geese, or kingfishers.
