Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbishan), Guilin

2.8
#3 of 11 in Nature in Guilin
A landmark of Guilin perched on the confluence of the Li and Taohua rivers, Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbishan) has been a popular tourist spot since the Tang dynasty. The curiously shaped limestone formation with a large hole resembles a giant, tree-covered elephant taking water from the river with its trunk. Enjoy the reflection of the karst hill on the still surface of the water. Climb to the top to see a panorama of Guilin, or rent a boat to get close to the giant limestone trunk. A temple with a pagoda lies on the hilltop as well. To visit Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbishan) and other attractions in Guilin, use our Guilin online travel route builder .

  • Nice sights. Watched a helicopter land and got sore feet. Oh and the highlight was getting water sprayed over me by an elephant  more »
  • Guilin because of the structural characteristics of geography, all kinds of caves, as well as mountains like this, this is a karst landscape, it is not long grass mountain. But this is not what peculiar attractions, the development of excessive.

  • Trees cover the exterior of the horse's road, you have to buy tickets for the toilet, watch too many people, limited, only to prevent the bag, so as to avoid pickpockets; it is worth looking at, the design of the water partition of the river is very good.

  • The rock looks like an elephant trunk and that is where the name comes in. The rock itself is not special. It is more like a good place to walk around, get a good view of the surrounding area. You can also rent a traditional costume for a great photo opportunity.
  • The rock itself is not so special for a foreigner, but it worth to go up to the top of the hill and see the beautiful panorama of Guilin.
  • It was okay, I mean there are elephant-shaped hills/mountains all over the world. Not sure why this is particularly touristy, I would skip it.
  • It looks pretty cool from afar already. I mean if you have a lot of time to spend in Guilin, go for it, otherwise there are plenty of other better things to do downtown.
  • Great view on the top of the hill. Only a little bit hiking.
