Guangzhou Opera House, Guangzhou
(4.4/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
An impressive futuristic landmark of the city at the foot of towering skyscrapers, Guangzhou Opera House spans some 70,000 sq m (753,473 sq ft), resembling a glass-and-granite whale or a submarine emerging from the concrete square. Designed by Iraqi London-based architect Zaha Hadid, the building has received much praise. You can go inside free of charge and take a guided tour, although you need to flash some ID. Walk around this strange structure and enjoy water fountains and modern sculptures around it. Check the opera house's schedule for a chance to see a live performance and enjoy the building's excellent acoustics.
