Nine Dragon Screen, Datong

2.9
Admire the intricate ornamets of flying, golden-scaled dragons at Datong’s Nine Dragon Screen, the oldest and largest glazed wall in China. With its impressive size, 8 m (26 ft) high, 43.5 m (149 ft) long, and 2.02 m (6.6 ft) thick, the wall, built in 1392, features 426 specially-fired glazed bricks. They form exceptionally well-preserved glazed dragons, with images of dogs, oxen, deer, rabbits, and other animals all visible. Superbly colored green waves on the bottom and the background of blue and yellow clouds make this piece of art a great photo stop opportunity. Admire the pond with a stone bridge in front of the wall, creating a lovely reflection of this exquisite work of art. • This place is a very common wall, see a visitor to go into the horse to collect tickets, a person ten people's money, from the outside can not see how the inside, and then discovered that from the pit, stopped two minutes to leave

  • Erected to protect the Royal Palace from the malignant entity did not work against the fire that still managed to destroy the building. In China you can see several of these "walls of spirits" but that of Datong is the largest, long, wide and tall eight forty-five metres 2. Completely covered in glazed tiles depicting nine dragons that intersect each other. It deserves some attention.

  • It’s beautiful but honestly not a place that you must have to visit. Only if you have time. Very hidden place . There is a little fee to enter.  more »

  • Not much info provided but plenty of history and story to the wall.
  • Ancient wall in Ming dynasty
  • Meticulous
  • Three great nine Chinese Dragon Wall one. Come to Datong, without seeing this go, and I'm sure later Beijing-9 consists of watching the Dragon Wall, exposing it to.

As well as restoring and recreating its historical sites in recent years, Datong has been building hotels. Fairly evenly spread across what is a fairly small and non-residential urban area, you'll find a number of hotels offering standard and luxury options, with some high-rises providing good views of the ordered streets of the city. Budget-friendly options can be found off the main boulevards throughout Datong, and include guesthouses, the odd youth hostel, and budget hotels.
