Yalu River Broken Bridge, Dandong

4.3
#1 of 15 in Things to do in Dandong
Visit Yalu River Broken Bridge to examine shell holes, twisted metal, snapped iron, and other damage left by the Korean War bombing. Formerly a major link between China and North Korea, the bridge was destroyed by American armed forces and retains only four of its original dozen arches. See the monuments--such as a bust of Mao Zedong's son who crossed the bridge to join the war--scattered around the site. The bridge runs parallel to the China–North Korea Friendship Bridge, which was also bombed in the war but later repaired. Get on a tourist boat to get closer to the North-Korean shore and see the bridge from the water. Dan East station and arrived at the Yalu River shear bridge in about 10 minutes. Do so would not be clean and straight. Across the river is the North. You can see in pretty close. More Chinese tourist groups thought the end of the bridge was filled with photos of Chinese. So go during the day and no shadows quite hot.
