Where to stay in Dali

A popular tourist destination for budget travelers, Dali offers a wide choice of places to stay. Hotels cluster on the southern and southeastern lakeshore, with luxurious five-star establishments closer to the Three Pagoda area. As an attractive spot for young travelers, Dali offers a range of cheap hostels and scores of guesthouses across the city. Most budget establishments sit just outside the west gate of the old town, or closer to the east gate. However, popular places fill up quickly during the summer period, so make sure you reserve your room in advance.

  • We went visiting the Butterfly Spring on the fourth day of our tour of Yunnan on 17 Apr 2017. Unfortunately it was drizzling and quite cold on that day. We were early and there were not many tourists ...  more »
  • Not worth it to do in winter. You don't get to see many varieties of butterflies then. Just a lot of walking around. Skip if you have somewhere more interesting to go.  more »
  • Personally this place is one of Top 3 MUST GO places in Dali for me. There are some stairs up and down but very easy so recommend for all ages. The Springs is one of the must see spots in this park. C...  more »

  • We took and overnight sleeper train to Dali to spend a couple of days there. Photos of the train accommodation are in another album. This is a very beautiful and peaceful place. The main lake is called Lover Lake. The don't know where the water comes from and the main pool is very deep. It has never gone dry. There was a dance show on in the afternoon. Whilst I didn't eat at the facility I did eat at a local restaurant near the facility and did get food poisoning. None of my friends got it so it must have been a bug that my system was not used to.
  • Good one time go..... Clear n clean water but didn't see any butterflies though
  • The Butterfly Spring Scenic Area or 蝴蝶泉 (Hu Die Quan) is a beautiful scenic attraction and tourist hotspot along the edge of the Erhai Lake near Dali. In the height of summer it is a haven for many species of butterfly, but even out of season visitors can see many colourful examples in the greenhouses. The entrance fee is around 60 RMB
  • Wild butterflies from April
  • Awesome sightseeing
