Chongqing Chaotianmen, Chongqing

3.3
A peninsula-shaped port (and the oldest in the city), Chongqing Chaotianmen stands at the confluence of the Yangtse and Jialing rivers as an important hub on this golden waterway. Made up of 13 separate docks, the area provides good restaurants and a huge wholesale market with particularly good clothes bargains. Observe the busy river activity from the spacious square, with dock workers handling huge quantities of cargo every day. River cruises, especially at night, give memorable views of the skyline. The site is also accessible via cable car, for a sweeping aerial view of the port. • A major ongoing construction project makes it hard to reach the tip of the peninsula. I first tried to walk along the northern side of CQ but everything was closed off. Eventually I made my way along the southern side and could reach the tip. What could have been a cool riverside promenade and viewing area is literally just a concrete platform with nothing to do. Why did the Chongqing city planners fail to implement some kind of waterfront park? Perhaps this place is nicer in the summer. Oh, and several of the boats at dock constantly play a loud spiel which is actually really annoying to listen to.
  • We went there for evening cruise. Different prices rank. I got 180 yuan for 2 persons
  • There is a major construction work going on, it was difficult to get to the tip of peninsula. It seems that Mr. Google didn't know that, took me some extra 10 minutes to walk down the hill. It has a good river view with cruising and restaurant boats, but not more than that.
