At Puppet Emperor's Palace (Wei Huang Gong) learn more about the life of China's last emperor. During the occupation of Manchuria, the Japanese built the palace as a miniature version of the Forbidden City for Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing dynasty and the puppet leader of the occupied state. The complex--built in a mixture of Chinese, Japanese, and European architectural styles--includes an inner court with the royal residence, an outer court with administrative offices, landscaped gardens with a fish pond, tennis court, a golf course, a swimming pool, and a horse track. Look for a throne room featuring a life-size doll of the young Puyi. Film director Bernardo Bertolucci used the palace as the setting of his acclaimed movie "The Last Emperor," which depicts Puyi's life.
