Zhongshan Park, Beijing

(4.4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Take a walk between the altars, temples, gardens, and pavilions of Zhongshan Park, a former imperial site sitting on the southwest corner of the palace. Created in 1421 as the Altar of Land and Grain, where emperors would offer sacrifices, the site opened as a public park in 1928, with the historic altar still intact as its focal point. A number of halls and pavilions, dedicated to members of the imperial family, dot the 23 ha (57 ac) park, broken up by blooming flower gardens and wooded areas. • This is a lovely and tranquil park near the Forbidden city. It provides a nice view of the area and some tranquility, which is so rare in the hectic streets of Beijing.  more »
