  • Today I visited the Great Wall @ Badaling. It is extremely touristy & even busy out of season. The wall is something special and must be visited. This part of the wall is close to Beijing, and once yo...  more »
  • To visit the great wall of China is something I've long known that I must do. So exciting and so far. We stopped in Beijing for a weekend on their way to Southeast Asia. Would have visited the wall at Badaling, but due to wind the cable car was closed that day. Our guide took us instead to Yanhecheng. I can not compare to other parts of the wall, but this was a fantastic experience! We were pretty much alone on the great wall, and just walking around on this edifice was a magical experience! China's cold in February, to have proper clothes, and the steps are up to half a meter tall. Much tougher climb than I thought, so have proper footwear and parts of the railings if you are going to climb the great wall at Yanhecheng! Great experience and over an hour's drive from our hotel in the Centre of Beijing!
