Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 170 reviews on the web
Snaking along ridges and across hills, The Great Wall of Gu Bei Kou preserves the ancient architectural beauty of a part of the Great Wall that has never undergone reconstruction. The structures' rather dilapidated state actually lets you get a close-up view of the way they were made. Enjoy views of huge green hilly expanses while hiking along its shrub-dotted pavements. Stretching for about 40 km (25 mi), the section features over 170 turrets, with the Big Flower Watchtower the best-preserved among them. Initially built in the mid-6th century along the Yan Mountains, the wall has witnessed over 150 battles. • We visited Gu Bei Kou with Beijing hikers in national holiday week. We went to Gu Bei Kou in order to avoid the large tourist flocks at Badaling and other frequently visited sites. We met almost no people on this stretch and there were many beautiful vantage points on the not restored wall. It was great to be able to go the trip in our own pace and the images were not filled by people. Beijing hikers had four guides with approximately 20 guests and were told about the fall of history along the way. The trip to Gu Bei Kou is long, but worth the wait.
