St. Joseph's Cathedral (East/Main Street India Church), Beijing

(3.8/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Built in Romanesque Revival style, St. Joseph's Cathedral (East/Main Street India Church) stands out with its lavish exterior and three domes. Although the present church dates to just the beginning of the 20th century, its foundations go all the way back to 1653. A plaque on the outside wall tells the story of the turbulent history. Admire the modest interior, displaying pictures of St. Joseph and other saints, marble columns, and archways. In the park in front, look for the statue of St. Joseph holding a child. If you arrive at night, sit under the tree and admire the lights illuminating the ornate cathedral. Locals often come to practice traditional dance, giving the site a special vibrant ambiance.
