3.8/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web
An impressive gate guarding the south entrance to Tienanmen Square, Qianmen (Zhengyangmen) imposes its grandeur upon the wide boulevard now separating the Inner City from the Outer City in the capital. As an entry point to a once-powerful tower, this huge landmark, built in in 1419, now houses a two-story museum detailing the gate’s rich history and strategic importance. This magnificent building was once part of a large wall surrounding the Inner City and you can explore its lower platforms for a nice view of the bustling downtown. Then, head to the upper floors, filled with souvenir shops where you can browse through some handicrafts. You can also enjoy this glorious structure from the adjacent park, with a traditional market just behind.
