Juyong Pass of Great Wall, Beijing
(4.5/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
Part of the strategic Great Wall of China, Juyong Pass of Great Wall remains a rare, well-preserved example of the impregnable solid barrier that once protected the capital's Old City. Serving as a military stronghold throughout history, the 4.142-meter (13,589 ft) circular pass rests in the 18 km (11 mi) long Guangou Valley surrounded by mountains on two sides. In the middle of the pass, examine the Cloud Platform, a white marble structure with reliefs of four heavenly gods and sutra scriptures carved in its walls. Stairs can get very slippery during rain, so check the weather forecast to avoid the bad conditions, and always carry snacks and extra water during your exploration. • See the tour buses go to Badaling great wall from left. Tension rises alone, which rose at a near 90-degree angle. It was a central checkpoint is restored and the parking lot had been in good condition, so would enjoy the atmosphere.

  • November in Beijing can be really smoggy. Our trip to Juyong Pass (居庸关) was memorable due to several factors, some serendipitous: 1. TAXI hire- 700 yuan for one-day itinerary: Great Wall, Ming Tomb 2....  more »
  • About 60 km from Beijing is this piece of wall of 700 years old. (Ming) It was strategically built as first defense for Beijing. You can well see why: the pass is situated between 2 high mountains. You can walk from the noordpoort from around 2 sides (ticket office) and then comes off at the round courtyard to the South port. We not come unfortunately because the climb up is extremely steep and cold wind. There is a railing built but it remains a scary climb.
