Ghost Street (Gui Jie), Beijing

(3.1/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Get a taste for busy Beijing life at Ghost Street (Gui Jie). Dozens of restaurants stretch along the street, with most staying open all night. Taste the local cuisines from various provinces to see the delicious differences in culture. Walk under the red lanterns that line the entire street, which got its name from the spooky atmosphere created by oil lamps of food vendors during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). Sit back and enjoy your meal at the city’s busiest eating area, and soak in the lively nightlife culture. • From this point and for the next two major blocks (going west), is what's called GuiJie, which is bascially a restaurant street. It's great to get dinner, but not such a great place to walk around. Pretty dead in the afternoon, and only really comes alive at night for dinner.
  • Fantastic night life of Beijing - a definite must-see.
