(3.1/5 based on 130 reviews on the web)
Get a taste for busy Beijing life at Ghost Street (Gui Jie). Dozens of restaurants stretch along the street, with most staying open all night. Taste the local cuisines from various provinces to see the delicious differences in culture. Walk under the red lanterns that line the entire street, which got its name from the spooky atmosphere created by oil lamps of food vendors during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). Sit back and enjoy your meal at the city’s busiest eating area, and soak in the lively nightlife culture. • To be fair we had borrowed an old guide to get around Beijing and Ghost street seemed to fit our route well that day for a well deserved dinner. We tried to trip advisor a place to eat - but there was...  more »
  • We had read about how the street got its sobriquet and seen photos of past times there. These were evocative with wispy lanterns across the street creating ghostly images. The reality is somewhat diff...  more »

  • From this point and for the next two major blocks (going west), is what's called GuiJie, which is bascially a restaurant street. It's great to get dinner, but not such a great place to walk around. Pretty dead in the afternoon, and only really comes alive at night for dinner.
  • Fantastic night life of Beijing - a definite must-see.
