Changlang, Beijing

4.4
#10 of 1,017 in Things to do in Beijing
Changlang impresses visitors as an imperial walkway covered in 14,000 elaborately painted decorations. Constructed in 1750 as a part of the World Heritage-listed Summer Palace, the corridor stretches 728 m (2,388 ft) and links the attractions located at the foot of Longevity Hill. Examine the ancient Chinese architecture and ornaments as you pass through the popular Long Gallery, which was included in the Guinness Book of Records in 1990 because of its abundance of Su-style colored paintings. Besides exploring the gardens, pavilions, and courtyards, you can also find an octagonal three-story observation tower to see a panoramic view of the lavish imperial compound. • A long covered walkway with over 8000 intricate paintings depicting scenes from Chinese literary classics and old fables. There are also four octagonal pavilions connected by the corridor, each one with a theme and more elaborate artwork (don't miss the ceilings). Worth taking a stroll through.
