  • You must get out of your bus or car and walk the streets of Valparaiso to know it. Yes, there are parts that are dirty, with crumbling buildings, but the "soul" (as another reviewer but it) is there o...  more »
  • The place is quirky. At first we don't like, we found dirty and looking dangerous. After we go up one of the lifts (means of transport used in the past that keeps today by tourism) changed her mind. We arrived in an alley of colourful restaurants and with a wonderful view to the harbour. We chose the restaurant fauna, by sight, but the dishes and the wine were wonderful. Then we wandered around aimlessly and color and Bohemian place tbm called us much attention. Next to the port also has many restaurants with incredible view. The port itself doesn't like that much. Then we go to Viña Del Mar, which pleased us even more.

Where to stay in Valparaiso

Since its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2002, Valparaiso tourism has experienced a meteoric rise. The city now offers a wide range of accommodations, especially budget hostels and mid-range hotels and inns. Cerro Alegre, a hill just to the west of the city center, offers perhaps the largest range of options and looks out over the bustling port. Stay in the friendly neighborhood of Cerro Concepcion to enjoy the best of Valparaiso's cafe culture.
