3.8/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web
Step into Chilean history and culture when you head to Plaza Sotomayor. Built to honor those who gave their lives during the War of the Pacific, fought between Chile and Peru, the square centers on a large memorial with explanatory placards. Many historical buildings surround the plaza, inspired by 17th-century French architecture. These include the old mayor's office, firefighters' headquarters, and port station. The city does a fireworks display some nights, of which you get a great view from the plaza.
