Landmark Tourist Spot
Step into Chilean history and culture when you head to Plaza Sotomayor. Built to honor those who gave their lives during the War of the Pacific, fought between Chile and Peru, the square centers on a large memorial with explanatory placards. Many historical buildings surround the plaza, inspired by 17th-century French architecture. These include the old mayor's office, firefighters' headquarters, and port station. The city does a fireworks display some nights, of which you get a great view from the plaza. • It is a place that must be known, since it is part of the history of Valparaiso. It is the monument to the heroes of Iquique and a beautiful building of the Navy.

  • In the Plaza Sotomayor are constructions that define the values most loved by its inhabitants. Monument to heroes, picks up all the dead in that bout in Iquique, which I mobilized and motivated to whole Chile to defeat in that conflict that I consolidate national sovereignty. In the square also accessed to the puddle where embark sailors whose ships are to tour the port. If you want to participate in the Buenos Aires life sit on a bench and watch pedestrians. Vera fishermen, artists, military, marine, tourists will give an idea that moving to this city.

  • Keep an eye out on the autos and busses! This beautiful, historic square, where you can catch a local vendors market for handmade goods, soaps, etc. enjoy restaurants and shope, is also home to a wild traffic pattern. So keep your eyes open and be careful as the busses are FLYING by!
  • Years back, I hit this place upon a bicycle tour. There is a train, the rest is walking. The center of town. Nice and safe place. See pictures from surrounding areas. Worth to go!
  • This is a the bustling square of Valpo. However, be careful of your belongings as I received several recommendations for locals to watch my phone while I was trying to navigate. It's more historic as it used to be the port when Valpo was first developed. This is also the meeting spot for Tours for Tips (I would highly recommend.) The tours start at 10 am and 3 pm and you can find them wearing red and white striped shirts in the plaza.
  • Very busy square. Close to Puerto subway station and Muelle Prat. A little dangerous at night
  • Historical place in Valparaiso, has great restaurant. Cafe de las Letras

Since its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2002, Valparaiso tourism has experienced a meteoric rise. The city now offers a wide range of accommodations, especially budget hostels and mid-range hotels and inns. Cerro Alegre, a hill just to the west of the city center, offers perhaps the largest range of options and looks out over the bustling port. Stay in the friendly neighborhood of Cerro Concepcion to enjoy the best of Valparaiso's cafe culture.
