Landmark
Step into Chilean history and culture when you head to Plaza Sotomayor. Built to honor those who gave their lives during the War of the Pacific, fought between Chile and Peru, the square centers on a large memorial with explanatory placards. Many historical buildings surround the plaza, inspired by 17th-century French architecture. These include the old mayor's office, firefighters' headquarters, and port station. The city does a fireworks display some nights, of which you get a great view from the plaza. • Plaza Sotomayor is an interesting plaza with some beautiful buildings surrounding it. There is a large sculpture at the side you would walk by on your way to the waterfront.  more »
  • This place certainly is for lovers of architecture, since it is surrounded by buildings of different architectural styles, closely placed crafts vendors and is close to the pier Pratt, is a point in their visit to Valpo.

  • It is a place located in a very central area of the city; but it is not really a square, it is rather a located where the monument to the naval heroes of the war of the Pacific. It is well maintained, the monument houses a small museum, whose only appeal is that it is underground. The place doesn't invite to stay or remain in it, is not square but place. It is a pity. Also opposite the monument, immediately opposite the building of the Chilean sailors, there is an Esplanade that could perfectly be a meeting place, but it is not, even used as a parking lot. A badly exploited space. There are some cafés close by that does not stand out for being nice places.

  • Right on the sea, this is the heart of Viña! Awesome center of the city
  • Nice plaza one block away from the water. Surrounded by government buildings. The nicest building is the Armada building.
