Monument Tourist Spot
See a grand and touching tribute to those who fought and lost their lives in the War of the Pacific at Monumento a Los Heroes. Inaugurated in 1886, the memorial houses the remains of Captain Arturo Prat, a celebrated navy officer and one of Chile's national heroes. The white plinths and black statues neatly contrast one another, creating an arresting visual effect and drawing attention to the sacrifices of soldiers who perished during one of the most dramatic periods in South American history. Where to stay in Valparaiso

Since its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2002, Valparaiso tourism has experienced a meteoric rise. The city now offers a wide range of accommodations, especially budget hostels and mid-range hotels and inns. Cerro Alegre, a hill just to the west of the city center, offers perhaps the largest range of options and looks out over the bustling port. Stay in the friendly neighborhood of Cerro Concepcion to enjoy the best of Valparaiso's cafe culture.

  • A well maintained monument. It is in excellent condition and this allows to appreciate its beauty. I recommend taking a walking - guided tour that takes place every day at 12:00, so you will understand better the meaning of this monument.
