Caleta Portales, Valparaiso

3.8
A small cove with a big seafood culture, Caleta Portales serves as the home to many fisherman, catching and selling fresh produce daily. Find the markets just by the ocean where fisherman line their old and colourful boats side by side selling their daily catch. If you don't feel like cooking your own, try one of the many tasty restaurants that exist in the adjacent towns. Stroll down the seaside boulevard or pier and keep an eye out for seals, as they hang around the shore and will be extra friendly if you have fish. • Yesterday (13/02/2018), we went to lunch and the first difficulty we had was to get our vehicle due to the traffic and arrangements on the road. It is can not enter directly by the avenue that passes by his side, but we had to give us a couple of times to appear opposite by the traffic lights to be able to cross the Creek. Then you are in with a great variety of cuisine. If I can give them in Council, it would be that they ask if the main dish of the letter comes with accompaniment. EJ. Fish: If you ask for fish, you will get a plate with fish only, which is ridiculous, because it usually comes with an accompaniment that is included in the price of the menu. Not going to spend money, buying fish, salad, rice, etc. There are restaurants that sell you lunch with included accompaniment.

  • It is the best way to buy very fresh seafood, or enjoy them in a series of restaurants in all prices.

  • Go to Valparaiso without visiting a seafood restaurant is losing a chance well considerable met the Pacific can offer us. Right on the beach right on the Metro in Portales, we opted for a table, we were offered on the site. For the most typical seafood has been suggested a Tabla them. This is a chilled combination of seafood with picotas fractions and whole parts of a quantity of sea creatures. Hard enjoy seafood, ice cream and even without knowing what and which part of the pet ate everything seemed a huge cold mix and condensed sea air. We were happier on main dishes with emphasis on Pastel de Jaiba, a Crab Gratin and the basic files of fish

  • This is a nice place right between Viña del Mar and Valparaíso where you can find restaurants right on the coastline. There's also sightings of seals and sometimes sea lions right on the beach. You can also go to the port boardwalk to watch the sea and ships come in and go out (after paying the "nice" old man at the gate $400 Chilean pesos per person [about $.63 cents of a dollar]). You can find street vendors, parking, a fresh fish market (and other stuff), I suggest not buying jaivas (big crabs) because the vendors usually get them illegally, and the actual beach. I recommend going to the Doña Tatito (nice restaurant with good beach-side Chilean specialties) for lunch or dinner but get there early for lunch because it does fill up pretty quick. Bring a towel and some sunscreen to chill at the beach after eating (the rather cold water and seal sightings don't make it a good place to swim, though... but you will see stubborn Chileans going at it anyways, don't follow their example).
  • Typical place to eat on the coast of Valparaiso. Very popular, not fancy but good is good
  • Restaurant and fish market good for photos of seagulls, pelicans and sea lions
  • Valparaíso - A real germ in Chile, should spend a night here, it's more interesting then staying in the city. cafes, designer shops and of course real stunning Graffiti everywhere!
  • Excellent place to see the coast!

Where to stay in Valparaiso

Since its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2002, Valparaiso tourism has experienced a meteoric rise. The city now offers a wide range of accommodations, especially budget hostels and mid-range hotels and inns. Cerro Alegre, a hill just to the west of the city center, offers perhaps the largest range of options and looks out over the bustling port. Stay in the friendly neighborhood of Cerro Concepcion to enjoy the best of Valparaiso's cafe culture.
